On Wednesday, September 4, 1968 members of Sentinel Loyal Orange Lodge 2322, Petherick's Corners, held an "Alfred Barnum" night in their hall, when every lodge in Northumberland County was represented to do him honour. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the sixty-year jewel. He had been a member of the Orange Order since joining the Wellman's Lodge in 1902 and two years later joined Royal Black Preceptory at the same place. Brother Wilfred Spencer read the address and made the presentation. Alfred was made a life member of the Preceptory and honourary member of the Orange Order. Alfred had been an active member of the Zion United Church, Petherick's Corners.
His occupation, between 1898 and 1956, was that of farmer.
He was buried in Zion Cemetery, Petherick's Corners, Seymour Township, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.
