Notes for Verna Grace BARNUM


Verna attended S.S. #2 - Petherick's Corners School. In March of 1916, The Missionary Society of the Methodist Church presented her with a book entitled "Children of Labrador by Mary Lane Dwight" for her work "as a collector of funds and a worker in the interests of the Missionary Society of our Church." About 1921, Verna was living in Toronto, Ontario and working for the Coca-Cola Company. She was a member of Saint John's United Church U. C. W. and the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In 1935 she was president of the Mizpah Mission Circle at Saint John's United Church. Pallbearers at her funeral were Earle Nelson, Gerald Sloggett, James Waldriff, Steven Gray, Stacey Lockhart, and Chris Harris. Flower-bearers were Tony Waldriff, Joshua Gray and Kyle Lockhart. Burial: July 17, 1990, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Campbellford, Ontario, Lot # 66 in section south west quarter, block # E containing 63 sq. ft. Officiating at the Funeral: Reverend Earl Taft & Reverend Gordon Whitehorne.
She died of heart failure in Campbellford Memorial Hospital.
