Notes for Elias WILBUR

According to his death certificate, Elias Wilbur was the son of Carr Wilbur and Clara Wilbur. Clara's maiden name may have been Meeker because notes from J. Roy Wilbur list the parents of Elias as Carr Wilbur and Mary Meeker. We know that Carr Wilbur was later married to Maria Gage and they had more children. Elias Wilbur married twice and raised eleven children and three step-children to adulthood.

Elias Wilbur settled on a farm near Conklin, Broome County, New York and was the first to clear that land and farm it. He was an influential citizen of Conklin and Broome, County. He served as a town Superviosr for a number of years and also a Justice of the Peasce for many years. In fact, he was well known in the county as a Justice of the Peace, and headed some grand juries involved in high profile criminal cases. [notes, Bob Barber, Conklin Town Historian].

In about 1895, Elias moved to the town of Binghamton, NY. At the time of his death, all of his children were living in Binghamton except Sierra, who was living in Burlington, VT, and Jennie who was living in New York City. Elias died at the age of 79 and is buried beside his wives, Sarah and Melissa in the Floral Park Cemetery in Binghamton, New York.
