Notes for Mary E. BARNUM


From the News Herald, Willoughby, Ohio, 3 February 2014: Port Clinton.- Mary E. Madison, 93, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Friday, January 31, 2014 at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont OH, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on September 08, 1920 in Catawba Island, the daughter of Luther and Agnes (Hanlon) Barnum.
She graduated from Port Clinton High School, the Salutatorian of her class and graduated from Davis Business College, Toledo, OH. Mary was the first office secretary of the newly opened H. B. Magruder Memorial Hospital, Port Clinton, OH in 1940 and worked there for four years. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for the American Bank. She married John Madison and he preceded her in death in April 1984.
Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH. Mary was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns, her entire life. She loved cooking and reading. But most of all she loved taking care of her family and her home. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
Survivors include: daughters, Patti (Joe) Davenport of Alabama and Bette (Larry) Herricks of Wisconsin; son, David (Theresa Woodel) Madison of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Linda Martin of Georgia, Chris Peterson of Arizonia, Heidi (Chris)Schlagel of Wisconsin, Michael (Casey) Madison of Port Clinton and Jessica (Josh) Burdette of Port Clinton; five great-grandchildren and one on the way. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will begin at 8:30AM, Tuesday, February 4, 2014, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton. Prayers will be recited 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at10:00AM, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery.
