From The Spectrum of January 23, 2005: Verdon "Bud" Barnum, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Grover C. Dills Memorial Hospital in Caliente, Nevada, a son of Charles Andrew and Jenny Hughes Barnum. Bud was born, raised and educated in Mesquite. He spent his summers in Gunlock, Utah. When he was 16-17 years old, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and later worked as a mechanic at the Hughes Garage in Mesquite. He married Edith Love September 3, 1941, in Bunkerville, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Saint George temple. Shortly after they married, they moved to Los Angeles, California. They lived in Los Angeles until 1963, at which time they moved back to Mesquite and purchased the Valley Garage In 1970, they divorced, and Bud moved to Las Vegas where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Nevada Department of Transportation. He was an excellent mechanic. He married Mary Edmunds in 1971 in Las Vegas. In 1974, Bud and Mary moved to Veyo, Utah, where they lived until moving to St George in 1990. When in Veyo, Bud enjoyed riding his horse, Goldie. Mary passed away in January of 1998, and he married Virginia Heath in December of 1998. Bud was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ho loved serving the Lord and was a Temple Ordinance Worker for 10 years. Hunting and fishing were some of Bud's favorite pastimes. He loved the outdoors. He was survived by his wife, Virginia; children Edith Ann (Lavoy) Hafen and Kenneth Charles (Lora); several stepchildren and brother, Andrew Hales Barnum and sister, Verda Myers. He was preceded in death by his first wife Edith, second wife, Mary and 2 grandchildren. Interment at Mesquite Cemetery.
Bud was survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Edith Ann (LaVoy) Hafen, and Kenneth Charles (Lora) Barnum; stepchildren, Sue (Larry) Chambers, Nina (Bob) Downing, and Michael (Sandra) Edmunds; ten grandchildren; brother, Andrew Hales Barnum; and sister, Verda Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Andrew and Jenny Hughes Barnum; first wife Edith Love; second wife, Mary; and two grandchildren, Michael Scott Hafen and Lydia Hafen.
