The British burned the central section of Danbury in 1777 on the assumption that America n army stores were kept there. Most local records were lost.
Daniel, second son of John(3), was a soldier of the Revolution. He enlisted 11 May 177 5 and was discharged on 13 Oct 1775 as a private in the 6th Co., 5th -- Col. Waterbury's Regt ., raised on first call for troops by acts of Legislature April and May 1775. They first mar ched to New York under Wooster, then to the Northern Department. His enlistment expired De c 1775 but on account of sickness many men returned home during Oct and Nov. By 1780 he wa s reported as having 3 sons and living on Mill Plain Road in Danbury.
He was active in buying and selling property and in arranging mortgages--both in the Dan bury area and in nearby New York. On 21 Feb 1784, for 50 pounds, Daniel sold to his father h is half of their common dwelling and "one equal half" of the adjoining two acres which were a djacent to King Street and the property of Abijah Barnum.
He moved to New York and the 1800 Census lists him in Franklin, then of Dutchess Co., wi th a wife, 3 sons, and 2 daughters. About this time, and until his death, he is recorded i n numerous land transactions--mostly of what is now Putnam Co. property. Toward the last h e was joined by John(4) K. who carried on the business after his father's death. A few lat e transactions involve Moses B. and Benjamin.
Personal information concerning this family is very meager. Daniel is presumed to hav e died in New York but no death record or burial site was found in either state.
