Obituary from an unidentified contemporary newspaper: Marion L. Barnum, 88, formerly of Perry Avenue and West 51st Street, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Carington Park. She was born Jan. 10, 1911, in Denmark Township, the daughter of Mark and Edna (Anderson) Rood, and had been a Perry and Ashtabula resident most of her life. A homemaker most of her life, she worked in three family businesses with her husband, Leon D. Barnum, to whom she was married 58 years. She enjoyed embroidery and her grandchildren, and at age 85 began making quilts for her great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Emma Butte of Umatilla, Fla., and Lillian Kirkingburg of Ashtabula; two sons, M. Richard Barnum of Dothan, Ala., and Leon "Leo" Barnum of Madison; a brother, Clark Rood of Geneva; two sisters, Leora Deluia and esther Rood of Ashtabula; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1988; two brothers, Wilbur "Bill" and Don Rood; four sisters, Florence Rood, Roweena Hackathron, and twins Thelma and Thelma Rood in infacny.
