Baptism records show her name as Marie-Elise. The priest may very well have understood Alice as Elise. As all children baptized in Canada at that time were required to have the first name of a saint on the baptism record, Mary becomes Marie and Elise becomes Alice.

1920 Census. City of Chicago, 3rd Ward, Cook County, Illinois. Enumeration District 164, pg 180B (Ancestry.com image 12) taken January 9th. Head of House, Age 50, Widow. Born Nebraska, father born (blank) mother born Nebraska. A son age 26 with only the last name of Stanfield living with her. (A son Richard born July 1893 would be 26 at this time) Alice should be 53 at this time and 54 in March. They are living at 4522 Cottage Grove Ave., Apt 148. In 1920 there is a Frank S. Stanfield living in a rooming house on Washington Blvd. with wife Emma. He is 57, born in Ohio, mother and father born Germany. Alice and Frank divorced, she married Joseph Cleary and is now a widow of Joseph Cleary.
She was baptized in Sainte-Anne de Danville Anglican Church, Danville, Shipton, Quèbec. Her godparents were Francois Xavior Hamel and Marguerite (Morin) Hamel.
