A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
Joseph worked as a chauffeur and gardener for a widow lady in Ashland, Oregon. He and Thelma also took in washing for a local hotel and at night they delivered milk to people in the area. At this time it was illegal to sell milk because of the strike against the price of milk. This was during the depression of the 1930's. Around the mid 30's the family moved from Oregon to Venice, California and from there to the San Fernando Valley where Joe worked laying cement. They bought several homes, living in one and renting out the other two. During WWII they moved to Port Hueneme, California where he painted landing craft at the Port Hueneme Naval Yard. In 1945 he and Thelma bought property in Port Hueneme and started a small trailer court with several apartments that Joe converted from surplus naval barracks He was self employed from then on and worked around the trailer court. They eventually lost their property in Port Hueneme and moved back to Canoga Park in the San Fernando Valley where Joe passed away. He was 80. Address at death 21050 Saticoy St. Canoga Park, Los Angeles County, California.
He lived in Grenada Hills, California when married.
Burial: May 25, 1978, Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth, Los Angeles, California. Cause of Death: congestive heart failure. Medical Information: Diagnosed with Parkinson's about 1950. Social Security Number: 559-12-5502
He was buried in Oakwood Memorial Park.
