Alma went on a trip with her parents, following her father's retirement, during which they retraced his 50 years of railroading. Her sister Dorothy stayed home. Maude was already married to Jack Smith and Eunice Adelaide was married to Bud Busselle when they left. When they returned they went to live in Ashland, Oregon with her brother Louis Barnum. Another brother, Joe, and sister Mary Ellen (who married Burdette Welday) live in California. She was listed in her mother's obituary as living in Clyde, Texas.
