In the 1900 US Census for Gouverneur, Saint Lawrence County, New York Harty Barnum and her daughter Daisy were enumerated as follows:
Dwelling #39; Family #42, Edith Street.
Barnum, Harty A.; Head; b. Feb 1822; 78; Widowed; Mother of 2 children; 2 children living; House keeper; b. New York; Father b. New York; Mother b. Vermont
Barnum, Daisy; Granddaughter; b. Oct 1870; 29; Single, b. New York, Both parents b. New York

Harty's mother, who was living with the Barnums in the 1880 census, was Almira (Streeter) Austin, widow of Elwell E. Austin.

Died. Austin. In Gouverneur, Sept 14th at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. O.G. Barnum, Mrs. Almira Austin, aged 81 years. (Gouverneur Herald, 1882). Mrs. Elwell Austin had lived in Gouverneur more than 50 years (Gouverneur, Its Past and Present by Mrs. C.A. Parker, p 53 (microfiche, University of Michigan Press). [Note: Mrs. O.G. Barnum is Harty F. Austin].

Almira Streeter died 14 Sep 1882. Married 21 Mar 1817, Gouverneur, Saint Lawrence, New York to Elwell E. Austin. Elwell born 28 Mar 1799, Hartford, Washington, New York; died 31 Jan 1875, Gouverneur, Saint Lawrence, New York. Seven children, all born in Gouverneur: David J., Harty F., Ebenezer Elwell, Moses R., Lydia F., Eliza F., William Townsend.

Although the notation regarding Almira Austin's death indicated she had lived in Gouverneur, NY, for over 50 years, she and Elwell were in the 1860 and 1870 censuses for Union Township, Fulton County, Illinois.
