The following wording is taken from a memorial to Dr. Charles S. Hoyt, deceased, formerly Secretary and late Superintendent of New York State Alien Poor, State Board of Charities, transmitted to the Legislature on January 16, 1899: "In May, 1866 Dr. Hoyt married Miss Dora Barnum, whose ancestors were also Eastern people.... Mrs. Hoyt's father was Major Jabez Barnum, of Bristol, N. Y., and her mother a representative of the Brace and Boughton families, who came from Connecticut, and who were at one time owners of the entire town of Victor, N. Y. Old Connecticut neighbors, after long separation, were thus brought together in the second and third generations and united in marriage." Mrs. Hoyt, two daughters and one son survived him, all residents of Canandaigua, New York, at the time of his death.
