Goldie Barnum Powell, 97, passed away February 6, 2014 at Bethany Home in Ripon, California. Her ashes are being cast upon San Francisco Bay, near Angel's Island. Goldie was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Orva and Mary Dawson. She graduated from South High School in 1935, and then married Harley Eugene Barnum in 1936. Together, they had three children. In 1944 they moved to Mercedes, in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. When Harley returned from Saudi Arabia, after WWII, they started H & B Iron Works in Weslaco. Goldie worked in the office. Harley died as the result of a car accident in 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Orval and Boyd Dawson, one sister, Retta Bell Rice, and her second husband, Rev. G. L. Powell. Goldie is survived by Larry G. Barnum, wife DeNell, of Groesbeck, Texas, Robert L. Barnum, wife Faye, of Baytown, Texas and Linda K. Friend, husband Rick, of Modesto, California. Goldie had six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
