Notes for Thomas Edward SMITH

Thomas became ill with emphysema about 1952. His health continued to deteriorate for years, and he spent most of his last years living with either his son Johnnie or his son Charlie. He is remembered as being a terrific banjo player, singing the old folk songs of his youth. He lived apart from his second wife but they did not divorce. Pearl lived with her children in the Dallas area while Thomas went to California. Thomas was a farmer/rancher almost all of his working life. He worked for several of the large ranches in the Dallas area, including the "West Begins" Ranch in Irving. He worked for the City of Dallas as a young man, but a back injury sent him back to country life.
