Obituary from the Courier Press, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin: Wilma S. McCormick 99, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Seneca, began her eternal life in Heaven on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Brunson Terrace in Prairie du Chien. She was born August 31, 1904, in Barnum, daughter of Marion and Panthea (Haskins) Barnum. In 1925 she began her teaching career in a one room school. She taught for 10 years, then on June 25, 1927, she married Francis (Fritz) McCormick at Saint Mary's Church in Gays Mills. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1997. In 1945 she returned to college to get her degree in teaching from UW LaCrosse. In 1946 she returned to Seneca where she taught for the next 24 years. Wilma and her husband Fritz presided as King and Queen of one of the first St. Patrick's Day Parades in Prairie du Chien in 1996. She is survived by a son Francis (Patsy) of Ferryville, a daughter Marian Swanson of Seneca, a daughter-in-law Lavonne McCormick of Rocklin, Calif., a son-in-law William Bell of Waukesha, a brother Edward (Doretta) Barnum of Brookfield, 20 grandchildren, 43 great- grandchildren and 12 great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son James, a daughter Helen Bell, 2 brothers; Frank and LaVerne Barnum and 5 sisters; Bessie Kreutz, Sr. Mary Therese, Mildred Porter, Hazel Young and Esther Barnum. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Seneca, Rev. Eugene Wolf officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church hall on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
