Notes for Antone Edward PORTER


He died of stomach cancer at his residence in Stevens Point, Wisconsin 54481.

Porter Services. Private family services for Antone "Tony" Porter are scheduled. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Boston Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring at the Boscobel Cemetery in Boscobel, WI. A memorial has been established for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Music Department. Mr. Porter, 82, 3301 Jordan Lane, died Friday at his home. He was born Jan 10, 1907, in the town of Linwood, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Porter. He attended Stevens Point Area Schools and graduated from Stevens Point Normal School (UWSP). He later attended Marquette University. Mr. Porter played and traveled with the Stevens Point City Band as a young man and continued playing through the 1950s. He was a trumpet player. He was married to Mildred Barnum on August 29, 1936, in Boston, Mass. He owned and operated Porter's Market on the corner of Main Street and Michigan Avenue from 1929 to 1960. He was later employed at Joerns Healthcare, where he was a lathe operator, until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Stansislaus Catholic Church, the Elks Club, and the Stevens Point Bowling League, and was a past member of the Stevens Point Country Club. He raised Walker fox hounds and was an avid outdoorsman. Survivors, besides his wife, include three daughters, Judith Engebretsen, 324 Frontenac Ave, Virginia Porter, Stevens Point, and Kathryn Porter, Minneapolis, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son.
He was buried in Boscobel Cemetery.
