Notes for LaVern Marion BARNUM


LaVern M. ‘Vern’ Barnum LaVern M. ‘Vern’ Barnum, 79, of Hartford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the Hartford Care Center.

He was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Barnum, Wis., to the late LaVern and Cora (nee Wood) Barnum, and married Jane Zimdars on July 7, 1951, at Saint Olaf's Lutheran Church in Toland.

Vern graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1951, and was a New York Life Insurance agent for 45 years.

Vern was a Rotarian and member of the Tripoli Shrine Temple and the Tripoli Band. He served on the Hartford Joint #1 School District Board and Redeemer Lutheran Church Council and was a member of Hartford Senior Friends.

Vern expressed his love for music as leader of the Dixie-Kats Band.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sue (Mark) Konrath of Hartford an Brenda Barnum (Dr. Steven Press) of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren, Luke and Jacob; three sisters, Dorothy Barnum of Florida, Pauline Moody of Barnum and Hazel Ann (Thomas) Helgerson of Waukesha; a brother, Rev. Conrad (Vi) Barnum of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Zipter of Hartford; a brother-in-law, Robert Shellman of Oconto Falls; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.

Rev. Frank Bauman will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorials to Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
