From the Anchorage Daily News, March 9, 1995: Former Anchorage resident Jane Barnum, 70, died of cancer March 5 at her home in Gresham, Ore.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Bateman-Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham with private cremation preceding. Mrs. Barnum was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Danville, Ill., to William and Marie Watson. She grew up in Illinois and received her education there. She then moved to the West Coast, living in El Centro, Calif., where she worked as a waitress. She then moved to Anchorage, where she met Harry Barnum. They were married Nov. 2, 1959, in Anchorage. While here, Mrs. Barnum worked briefly as a waitress, then cared for her home and family.
In 1976, they moved to Death Valley, Ariz., where she worked as a tour guide for many years. They then moved to Casa Grande, Ariz., where Mrs. Barnum was a restaurant owner for six years. In 1990, they moved to Gresham, where she retired and enjoyed painting, arts and crafts and genealogy.
Mrs. Barnum is survived by her husband, Harry of Gresham; five daughters, Cindy Compehos of Valdez, Jeanne Maughan of Anchorage, Debi Valencia of El Centro, and Pamela York and Becky Metzger, both of Gresham; one son, David of Valdez; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
