Nancy and her husband Charles Henry moved from Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois to Oakland, Alameda, California between 1870 and 1880 where they can be found in the respective census records. In the obituary of her daughter Adaline, who died in 1900 (provided by Ann and Dick Shallberg), Nancy was listed as Mrs. W. N. Cook, living in California. Nancy can be found in the 1900 census in Monterey, Monterey County, California as Nancy Cook, living with her daughter Viola and Viola's husband Charles Carr. Apparently, Charles Henry died and Nancy married W.N. Cook before 1900 while in California. No marriage record has been found. In all census records Nancy states that she was born in New York, her father in Connecticut and her mother in Massachusetts.
Nancy Barnum Whiting Henry Cook died in 1904. Her grave is marked by a very large stone and the name of her daughter, Viola, also appears on it. Viola apparently chose not to be buried at the same site, since the stone is marked "Viola Whiting Carr (1852- )". On the stone Nancy's name is given as Nancy Barnum Cook. She is buried in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, in Colma, San Mateo County, California.
