Notes for Chester Loomis CASTOR

In the 1851 Thurlow census, Thurman G. Castor was a sawyer, Harvey Castor was a millwright and William and family were residents of the US. At least William and Harvey appear to be older brothers of Chester Loomis Castor and all appear to have been involved in the lumber trade. The Castors came from Ellisburg, NY. In 1850, Timothy Farnham came to Cannifton from the US and made plank roads in partnership with his brother-in-law who was a lumber merchant from Ellisburg, NY. The brother-in-law never came to Canada. Even tually, Timothy's son married Margaret Louisa Phillips. The Ellisburg/Cannifton connection is an interesting one. Why Cannifton? Perhaps the brother-in-law had connections through the Castor family.
