From the Morning Telegram, Elmira, New York, Sunday, January 27, 1918: Miss Lillyan B. Barnum, aged twenty years of 172 East Third Street, Corning, died at the Corning Hospital Thursday (January 24) of acute Bright’s Disease. She was born in Binghamton, New York June 4,1897. For the past sixteen years she had resided in Corning. Miss Barnum was a member of the First Baptist church and Sunday school and was a member of the World Wide Guild, a society connected with the church. She was a young woman of pleasing personality and was highly esteemed. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Merton Barnum; one sister, Mrs. J. Beisswanger of Elmira, four brothers, H. Merle a student in Colby College, Waterville, Maine, Lynton L. Barnum a student in Syracuse University, Donald A. and J. Merton Barnum Jr. at home. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon and was private. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.
