Joe was born in Essie, Sencoe County, Ontario, Canada. He came to the U.S. in April, 1866 and worked near Louisville, Dunn County, Wisconsin, for several months, then returned to Canada. He came to the U.S. again in the spring of 1867 and settled on a farm near Downsville, Dunn County, for some time. On 11/7/1872, he purchased the farm in Lucas, where he resided until his death. Joe became a U.S. citizen in 1867. His wife Iona is buried in Lucas Cemetery in Dunn County, WI. Perhaps Joe is also buried there. Iona died of “a complication of diseases;” Joe died of “a paralytic stroke”.
