George W. Barnum's WWI registration card gives his name as Geo. William Barnum born May 19, 1877.
From the Potsdam Courier Freeman of April 29, 1965: West Potsdam--Funeral services for George W. Barnum, 87, were held Thursday April 22. Burial will be held later in the spring at Kings Daughters cemetery, West Potsdam. Mr. Barnum died Monday, April 19 at the Charlebois nursing home. He was born in West Potsdam May 19, 1877, a son of Jasper and Olive Sealy Barnum. Once Potsdam police chief, he was the village's first motorcycle policeman in the 1920s. Later, he was employed as a paid fire truck driver. Mr. Barnum remained with the fire department until 1940 when he became custodian at the civic center. Later he was in charge of counting and wrapping coins from parking meters.
