From the Alameda (CA) Times-Star, 4 May 2005: Thomas Barnum entered peacefully into rest in Castro Valley on April 30, 2005. He was 91 years old. Born in Roy, New Mexico, Thomas was devoted to his family and his faith. He read the bible daily and said the rosary. Thomas was generous and it showed in many ways. He had taken care of his sister-in-law, Susie, for a few years before she had passed. He loved feeding treats to the family dog, Ozzie and showered his grandchildren with attention. In later years he was active and loved to garden and every week he would cook a batch of pinto beans. He will truly be missed. Thomas is survived by his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Barbara Barnum of Castro Valley. His loving grandchildren, Craig Barnum, Jason Barnum and Julie Barnum. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Brandon, Mitchell, Jason Jr., Austin and Eric. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth, in 1994 and his brother, Charlie Barnum. His brother, Anthony Barnum, passed away the same day as Thomas. Visitation for Thomas will be on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. A vigil service will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo.
