A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname

Notes for Anne RANDERSON

In the 1900 US Census John Louis and Anna McAbee were living on County Line Road - Highway U, with his children Henry, Sophia, Lewis, and Maggie and her children Katie, Mike, William and Robert. They must have married between 1897 and 1900. At that time Anna had 4 children living; her youngest, John, had died in 1894. This census record tells descendant Gloria Farrell that they were living on Anna's farm, because they were shown as living next to Gloria's great-great aunt and uncle, Adelia and Harry Church, who lived on the corner of Highway U and Highway S, on the Kaukauna Township side of the road. The other side of the road was Lawrence Township. She also suggests that John L. and Anna probably decided to farm her farm because her sons were too young to take it over, and that one of John's sons was therefore farming his.

In the 1910 Census John and Anna were still living on her farm on County Line Road (north of Highway S) with just her son Robert. Her son Mike Nolan, married to Ellie Remmel (whose family were neighbors), took over the farm after John Louis and Anna moved to De Pere. Eventually, Mike's son Robert, married to Agnes Green, took over the farm. Agnes was still living in the house in 2006.

In the 1920 Census John and Anna were living on 4th Street in De Pere, which is on the western edge of the town. Robert and their son John are buried Saint Nicholas Cemetery in Freedom.

In the 1930 Census Anna was still living on 4th Street in De Pere.
