Notes for Richard WHALLEY


Richard Whalley, was born about 1570 in Screveton, Kirkton. He was a member of parliament for Boroughbridge in the forty third year of Elizabeth's reign (1602). He married Frances Cromwell.

From the Dictionary of National Biography, Vol XX, Smith Elder & Co. London, 1899: "Richard was sheriff of Nottinghamshire in 1595-6, knight of the shire in 1597, married as his second wife, Frances, daughter of Sir Henry Cromwell, and was father of Colonel Edward Whalley."

In the House of Commons, June 1, 1614: Whalley's Debt. L.1.
