Notes for Thomas WHALLEY
From Nichols, The History and Antiquities of the County of Leicester
: Thomas Whalley of Screveton, co. Nott. died in his father's time 1582, married Elizabeth, eldest Dau. and coheir of Henry Hatfield, of Willoughby, born 1529. In a footnote Nichols states "To Thomas, the eldest son of Richard Whalley, and William the eldest by his second wife, did sir John Hercy of Grove, uncle of John Nevill before-named, marry his two nieces, Alice, one of the eight sisters and heirs of the said sir John; but she was afterwards married to ---Markham; by whom having a son, none of Hercy's inheritance came to this family. Thoroton, p. 130.; ex autog. penes Peniston Whalley, arm. - Thomas Whalley had six sons and two daughters; 1. Richard, who died young; 2. Richard, who succeeded to the patrimony of his father; 3. Walter; 4. Robert; 5. John; 6. Thomas; Margaret, the eldest daughter, married to Arnold Reaseby, of Yorkshire, esq.; Eleanor, the second daughter, married to Thomas Draper, of Flintham, co. Nott. gent."
He predeceased his father.
