Along with seven others, he was beheaded in Santa Fé in 1643 for the death of Governor Rosas.
Diego married Bernardina Vásquez, daughter of Francisco Vásquez and Unknown. (Bernardina Vásquez was born Jan 1599 or 1600 in Santa Fé, Nuevo México, Nueva España, and died after 1660 in La Estancia de los Cerrillos, Nuevo México, Nueva España).
In addition to the children he had with Bernardina Vásquez, Diego also had a son named Alonso Catiti who was born in Santo Domingo Pueblo, Nuevo México.
From 1760 to 1859, La Castrense Church (the Military Chapel), stood on the south side of the Santa Fe Plaza across from the Palace of the Governors. The church’s official name was Nuesta Señora de la Luz (Our Lady of Light), however, most of the locals preferred to call it “La Castrense.”
