Notes for Marion Young BARNUM

Genealogical Notes, First Part - Paternal Line (Jurian Young and His Descendents) by J. A. Young of Chilhowee, MO; May 1886, Note 13: Marion Y. Barnum was born in the Young farmhouse, about 1 mile east from Castle Creek, N.Y. His parents moved the same year (1866) to Camden county, Mo., (Barnumton).

Marion Young Barnum, born January 4, 1866, in New York State is listed in the 1900 Census in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Wife was Mary ---- b. March 1867 in MO., daughter Leolia M., b. July 1891 in MO. The birth date given for Marion is incorrect, but it states they were married ten years at that time. In 1910, these three are also listed in Kansas City, MO. with Marion listed as a grocery merchant. They could not be located in the 1920 Census, but in 1930, Marion, still listed as married but without his wife, is enumerated with his daughter’s family who was married to Joseph E. Breuer. They are listed in Independence City, Jackson County, MO.

Marion Y. Barnum’s death record indicates that he died March 11, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri and that he was an optometrist. His wife’s name is given as Mildred R. Barnum so he apparently had remarried after 1920. Buried in Floral Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
He was buried in Floral Hill Cemetery.
