From The Geneva Times, Geneva, NY, Thursday, January 2, 1958: Phelps, NY—Final rites for Victor B. Barnum, 77, former owner and operator of a hardware business in Phelps will be held Friday. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Phelps. Mr. Barnum died Tuesday (December 31, 1957) in Clifton Springs sanitarium after a long illness. The younger son of Edward E. and Viola S. Barnum, Mr. Barnum was born June 4, 1879, in Anterville (s/b Centerville) NY. He graduated from Pike Seminary and was a member of the 1906 class of Cornell University. Mr. Barnum was formerly employed for several years by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad as an electrician. He later returned to Centerville and purchased a general store in that vicinity. In June 1913, he was married to Christine Filer of Arcade and later moved to Phelps where he purchased the hardware business. About four years ago he retired and entered into a plumbing and heating business with his son Robert at Clifton Springs. Besides his widow and son, Robert, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Aaron Norton, Old Forge; a sister, Mrs. Robert Davidson, Portageville; a brother, Ward of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Karen, David and Nancy of Clifton Springs.
