From the Siskiyou Daily News, 10 April 1969: Weed--Funeral services will be conducted in the Grace Presbyterian Church Saturday at 11 a.m. for Chester Leroy Barnum, 85, who died April 89 in Weed. He was born in Missouri on June 1, 1883 and has been a resident of this city for 64 years. He is survived by five sons, Roy of Edgewood, Howard of Weed, Aubrey, Stan and Harold of Mount Shasta; two daughters, Ellen Lynch of Weed and Ramona Sutter of Tacoma; four sisters, Mrs. Leland Stone of Weed, Anna Smith and Celia Warner, both of Sacramento and Lucretia Moore of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Re. Ronald Smith will officiate and interment will follow the church services in the Winema cemetery. Upton Mortuary Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Chester was employed by the old Weed Lumber Company and later the Old Long-Bell Lumber Company for 47 years. He moved to Grant Pass, Oregon in 1902, Shasta, California in 1904, then to Weed. He was survived by 2 daughters, 5 sons, and 4 sisters.
