She and her sister Virginia were twins.
Yvonne (Barnum) Carstensen, 74, a longtime Wenatchee resident, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Oct. 7, 1996, at Central Washington Hospital, following an extended illness with emphysema. She was born on Feb. 9, 1922, to Lyndon and Florence (Raymond) Barnum at Seattle. She was raised, attended schools and worked in Seattle. On Dec. 7, 1941, she was married to Donald H. Carstensen in Seattle. They moved to Wenatchee in 1950. She had worked for Dairy Queen, Younkin Fruit Co. and Phillippi Fruit Co. She retired from the Phillippi Fruit Co. In 1983, she moved to Kelso to be closer to her sisters. She returned to Wenatchee in 1990 and was active at bingo and enjoying the company of her friends. She was a member of the Kelso Fraternal Order of Eagles. As well as being an avid bingo player, she enjoyed playing pinochle. She was also active in digging for Indian artifacts along the Columbia River. During the late 1950s, she participated in her daughters' activities as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader. She helped make the first uniforms for the South Wenatchee grade school band and later chaperoned the Wenatchee High School band on trips. She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and family gatherings. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Lynda Mikkelsen, Spokane, and Judy and Gary Oldfather, Quincy; her twin sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Bob Stenquist, Kelso; five grandchildren, Donna Woods, Spokane, Stuart and Sheena Woods, Kennewick, Brian Woods, Soap Lake, Denise and William Miller, Cashmere, and Kristi Oldfather, East Wenatchee; four great-grandchildren, Kira and Makinna Woods, Kennewick, Samantha Woods, Soap Lake, Aleshandra Miller, Cashmere; one niece; four nephews; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Barbara (Barnum) Snyder in 1993, and her beloved son-in-law, Martin Mikkelsen in 1993. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee. Commemoration services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with the Rev. John Pavelko officiating. The services will conclude in the chapel. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in her name to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
