In 1837 a Land Patent was issued to Charles D. Barnum of Onondoga County New York for 40 acres in the SE1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 10, Township 3S, Range 8E. The father and half-brother of his wife Martha also had land patents in Township 3S.
In the 1840 US Census for Lodi, Washtenaw, Michigan the family of Charles Barnum was enumerated as one male 20-30 years of age, employed in agriculture, and one female 20-30 years of age. The same census recorded Martha’s parents and her two half-brothers, William and Thomas, also living in Lodi.
Charles may have died between 1843 and 1849, since Martha appears in the 1850 Census as the wife of Solomon Burlingame and the mother of a one-year-old child.
