Notes for Sarahjane SPARKS


From the Columbus Dispatch, Ohio, June 26, 2013: Sarahjane "Sallie" Sparks Wood, age 90, of Columbus, crossed into the arms of angels, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at her home. She was born February 9, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Edward and Hildagail (Barnum) Sparks. She graduated as valedictorian from Connellsville (PA) High School and as salutatorian from West Virginia Wesleyan University. Sallie was a research scientist with Lederle Labs, Pearl River, New York and with The Ohio State University, retiring after over 38 years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dudley Wood; sister Ann Malta, and brother-in-law Jim Malta. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, Luanne (Rod) Skinner, Denise (Mike) Riggs, Nancy (John) Wagner and Amy (Brian) Sexton; great nieces and great nephews, David Skinner, Keely Odum, Inessa and Ben Wagner; many cousins; loving church family at Westminster and many friends; caregiver Alison K. Chaffin and her parents, Donna Hunt and Bill Chaffin. Sallie was a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for missions and children in need. With her husband Dudley, she loved traveling around the world, especially Bermuda and when traveling with her family, her favorite destination was Emerald Isle. She was passionate about making the world a better place for others. Sallie was a member of the MENSA Society. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 222 Schoolhouse Lane, Columbus, Ohio.
