From Ira's obituary: After about three years of intense suffering, Ira P. Barnum is at rest. About one o'clock last Sunday morning, November 13, one of Royal Oak's most esteemed citizens was called to the great beyond. Ira P. Barnum, the patient suffering from consumption, at last succumbed to the dread disease. Mr Barnum had also been totally blind for over a year. However he was an example of patient endurance, always greeting friends and acquaintances with a smile of welcome. When about 17 years of age, Mr. Barnum enlisted in the Rebellion, serving three years in the regular army and receiving two wounds in his service to his country. Mr. Barnum had spent a greater portion of his life in the vicinity of Royal Oak, and Had won a large circle of friends.

Ostrander of the Congregational church officiating. Medical Information: He received two wounds during the Civil War and it was thought that through them he contracted the germs of the disease that killed him.
