From the Evening News of North Tonawanda, New York, 22 October 1941: Former Superintendent of Public Works Dies Here. Ernest E. Mahannah, who served under former mayors B. L. Rand and Carl F. Drews, passed away this morning; was well known in Tonawanda. Ernest E. Mahannah, who served five years as superintendent of public works, died this morning at his home, 261 Sommer street. He was born in Hannibal, N. Y., 82 years ago and had resided in North Tonawanda for the past 55 years. He was appointed superintendent of public works by B. L. Rand when the latter took office as mayor of North Tonawanda in 1915. Mr. Mahannah served for four years under the administration of Mr. Rand and held the superintendency during 1919, the first year of Carl F. Drews' term as mayor. He was a Republican. Prominent In Church Work. He was superintendent of the Sunday school of the First Baptist church many years. He also served as a trustee and deacon of the church. Surviving are his wife, Cora E.; two sons, Morris B., of New Haven, Conn., and Everett A., of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth R. Hay of Tonawanda, and a brother, Frederick, of Auburn, N. Y. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Hay, 94 Highland Avenue. The Rev. Joe B. Maffett will officiate and burial will be in Mount View cemetery, Pekin.
