Notes for Washburn CHARD


From the Troy Times, Troy, New York, Wednesday, November 4, 1931: Washburn Chard, better known as Bert, janitor of the Heatly School for the last three years, died at his home last evening after a week's illness of pneumonia. Mr. Chard was born in Watervliet and had been a resident of the village for the last 30 years. He was an exempt fireman and affiliated with the Gilbert Hose Co. He had been employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad Co. for 28 years until his appointment as janitor of the Heatly School. The survivors include his wife, formerly Miss Alice Barnum; three sons, Norman H., Alfred B. and William F. Chard, and two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Lewis and Mrs. Grace Danks, all of Green Island; one brother, David Chard, and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Gardner and Mrs. Nellie Schultz, all of Watervliet. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence, 170 Paine Street. Rev. Fred C. Bennett, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
