According to the Berkshire Eagle of Feb. 5, 1957, Clarence Sherwood Barnum married Mary Lou Tyler January 26, 1957 at Lowell, Massachusetts. The June 10, 1960 Berkshire Eagle reported the marriage ended in divorce. At that time they had a two year old son. He later married Nancy McKnight.
From the Union-News, Springfield, MA - January 2, 1991: Clarence S. "Pick" Barnum, 55, of Boice Road, North Egremont, a retired employee of Pfizer Corp. in Canaan, Conn., died Tuesday at home. He worked many years before retiring in 1975. A blacksmith, he traveled to farms and homes throughout the East. He owned and trained thoroughbred horses with his daughter, Becky Barnum of Lee. They raced them at county fairs in New England. Born in Great Barrington, he attended schools there. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Great Barrington. He was a member of the Great Barrington Fish and Game Club. He was Western Massachusetts Division champion in dart competitions. His mother, the former Gertrude (Briggs) Barnum, died Monday. He leaves his wife, the former Nancy McKnight; two sons, Mark M. of Housatonic and Lee of North Egremont; another daughter, Kim LaPlante of Pittsfield; two brothers, Harold of Housatonic and David of Great Barrington; a sister, Betty Graham of Great Barrington; and five grandchildren. The funeral for both mother and son will be Thursday morning at United Methodist Church with a graveside service in Elmwood Cemetery.
