Obituary from the Siskiyou Daily News, Yreka, California: Richard Darrel Barnum, 55, passed away suddenly on Friday night, May 26, 2006 in Quincy. Rick was born May 2, 1951 in Oakland to Darrel and Eleanor Barnum. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay area and attended Castro Valley High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts in geography from Cal State University Hayward. On August 31, 1974, he married Nora A. Lindahl in Castro Valley. After college, Rick began his career in planning with Plumas County, working there from 1977 to 1985. He then worked for the City of Lodi from 1985 to 1988 before coming to work with the Siskiyou County Planning Department as the Assistant Planning Director and then the Planning Director. He worked for Siskiyou County until 2004 when he went to work for Shasta County Resource Mgmt. as the Assistant Director. Rick had a lifelong interest and love of the automobile. He helped start the MAFCA Chapter of the Feather River A's and currently belonged to the Sis-Q A's, holding offices in both. He also belonged to the HCCA and SAAC. He was an avid reader and book collector concerning all forms of travel, transportation and history. He was a past member of Las Plumas del Oro chapter of E Clampus Vitus.
