A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
According to J.P. Crawford, informant on John's Death certificate, John was a shoemaker, and a son of John Meisterhans and Elizabeth Stiger, both natives of Switzerland. John Meisterhans, Jr. came to Graham, Young County, Texas in 1876 and made boots and shoes.
In 1888, John Meisterhans moved from Graham, Texas to Strawn, Texas. By 1910 he was living in Precinct 1, Plainview, Hale County, Texas. He stated in the 1910 census that both of his parents were born in Switzerland. He further stated that he immigrated to the United States in 1877 and was a naturalized US citizen.
