Notes for Arnold Lee BARNUM


From the Orange County Register, December 2, 2003: A Mass of the Resurrection for Arnold "Red" Barney Barnum, 71, is set for 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. (Solano County, California)
Mr. Barnum passed November 21, 2003, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long battle with emphysema. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 16, 1932, in East Jewett, N.Y., to Claude and Lucy Barnum, he lived in Vacaville for nine years. A graduate of Torrington High School in Connecticut, he was an accomplished athlete and local basketball star. He proudly served in the Navy on the Carter Hall LSD during the Korean Conflict. He moved his young family to California, where he worked as a sheet metal draftsman. He was a longtime scoutmaster who enjoyed golf and the outdoors.
After moving to Vacaville, he made many friends and was known for his generous spirit, sensitivity and sense of humor. He was a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge No. 1967, Vacaville Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 7244 and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Barnum is survived by his wife, Maria of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Carl Hartmangruber of Vacaville and Charlene and Todd Koeppen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepdaughters and their husbands, Liz and Bob Cartwright of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carolyn and Carl Fore of Vallejo; stepdaughter, Suzanne Wilson of North Hollywood; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Ella of Riverside and Steve and Marcia of Vacaville; stepsons and their wives, John and Jackie Wilson of Cloverdale and Bill and Cindy Wilson of Coronado; sister, Charlotte of New York; brother, Francis of Santa Ana; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and very special nieces and nephews, Diane, Debbie, Donna and Tom.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa; brothers, Frank Barnum and Tom Distin; and granddaughter, Melissa Hartmangruber.
