Notes for Roy F. BARNUM

Roy F. Barnum, son of Frederick E. Barnum and Nettie Marsden, was enumerated with his parents in the 1900 Census for Utica, NY as Leroy F. Barnum, but all subsequent references refer to him simply as Roy F. Barnum. In that census his birthdate was given as March 1888. However, the enumerator seems to have confused the order of the children. Roy’s brother, Edwin Allen (Alan) Barnum was born on March 11, 1888 according to Edwin’s WWI draft registration card. Roy must have been born about 1891 as he was 74 when he died in 1965. According to the marriage notice in the Utica Herald Dispatch of April 13, 1915, Roy F. Barnum married Margaret Yule on April 12, 1915 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Utica, N.Y. In the 1930 census for Utica, New York, Roy and Margaret are enumerated with their 5 children: Marsden, Maryl, Kenneth, Margaret and Douglas.

He leaves his wife, two daughters; Mrs. Bertram (Maryl) Kime and Mrs. Jay (Peggy) Cullen; three sons, Marsden Y., Kenneth R. and Douglas H. Barnum; a brother Robert and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Board.
