From the Observer-Dispatch, Utica, NY, March 21, 1976: Sauquoit – Roderick L. Barnum, 61, died at his home yesterday after a long illness. He was born in Utica. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. He operated a service station for 35 years. He married Ruth Helmes in 1939 in Utica. The couple made their home in Sauquoit for 30 years. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters: Mrs. Edmund F. (Sandra) Lowe, Liverpool; Mrs. James F. (Carol) Smith, Whitesboro; Miss Mary E. Barnum, San Antonio, Texas; three brothers: Frederick, Ypsilanti, Mich., Walter, Whitesboro; Robert, Marietta, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Edith) Kerber, Ilion, Mrs. Jean Clark, Colorado. Burial will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Clayville, NY.
