From the Utica Observer Dispatch, June 25, 1979: New Hartford, NY—Walter C. Barnum, 53, of New Hartford, Vice-President of Bank of Utica, died Saturday, June 23, 1979, in Faxon Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born In Middleville, New York,March 18, 1926, son of Charles and Laura Klumbach Barnum, educated in Utica schools, a graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. Degree and received his Masters in Computer Science from the University of Missouri. He served with the US Navy during WW II. He taught for several years at Mohawk Valley Community College. For the past 7 years he has held his present position. Surviving besides his wife, Carolyn Wallace Wentworth are two sons, David and Douglas of Utica; three daughters, Mrs. Kevin (Joyce) Marley, Mrs. Michael (Judy) Miller of Vermont and Diane at home; two brothers, Robert of New Jersey and Frederick of Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Clark of Colorado and Mrs. Arthur (Edith) Kerber of Ilion; four grandchildren.
