From the Observer-Dispatch, Utica, NY, Nov. 16, 2014: Douglas H. Barnum, formerly of Utica, passed away on November 7, 2014, at his home in Ocala, FL, at the age of 89. He was born on December 6, 1924, in Utica, N.Y. He was the son of Roy F. and Margaret M. (Yule) Barnum. During World War II, he served in Army Air Corps. He served as master of Utica Lodge #47 and was a member of the Scottish Rites and the Ziyara Shrine. He retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in 1979. He and his wife, Helen, relocated to Ocala in December 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Ocala, and sons, Douglas, of Ocala, Darryl (Karen), of Advance, NC, and David (Tim Small), of Matawan, NJ. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

From the Ocala Star-Banner (FL) - November 23, 2014: Ocala - Douglas Harrington Barnum passed away on November 7, 2014 at his home in Ocala, Florida at the age of 89.
He was born on December 6, 1924 in Utica, NY. He was the son of Roy F. and Margaret M. (Yule) Barnum. He graduated from Utica Free Academy. He attended Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in accounting.
During World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant in Army Air Corps and was discharged from active service as a radar navigator in 1946. He extended his military career in the Army and Air Force Reserves until 1957. During his life in Utica, he was involved in the Masonic Utica Lodge #47 where he served a term as Master. He was also active with the Scottish Rites and the Ziyara Shrine.
He was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY as a management analyst / accountant until he retired in 1979. He and his wife Helen relocated to Ocala in December 1979. In retirement, he enjoyed bowling and golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marsden (Virginia), Maryl (Bert) Kime, Kenneth (Helen), and Margaret (Jay) Cullen.
He is survived by his wife Helen Carson Barnum of Ocala and sons Douglas of Ocala, Darryl (Karen) of Advance, NC, and David (Tim Small) of Matawan NJ. He had six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church 55 Palm Road, Silver Springs Shores, Ocala, FL on December 6, 2104 at 11:30am. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice or St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ocala. Internment of ashes will be at a later date.
