Notes for Anna Hartwell BARNUM

In 1912 she was unmarried and residing at 416 West 22nd Street, New York City.
From the Greenfield Recorder Gazette, Greenfield, Massachusetts, Thursday, April 16, 1936: Deerfield—Miss Anna H. Barnum, 63, died last night at the home of G. Henry Wright where she had lived since coming to Deerfield about two years ago. Miss Barnum and her sister, Miss Rebecca B. Barnum, formerly conducted tea-rooms in several parts of the country. Born in Washington, D. C., on July 19, 1872, she was the daughter of Ezra and Phoebe (Cocks) Barnum. She had lived in Montclair, N. J., from 1890 to 1910 when she went into tea room and cafeteria work. The Misses Barnum's last tea room was the Armchair in Northampton. Miss Barnum's hobby was homemaking and in the early days of radio she gave many talks on homemaking as a profession. While she conducted the cafeteria at Cornell University, she taught a class in the management of the food business, and during this time, worked toward the goal of having every girl in the colleges of the country take a home economics course before graduation. Miss Barnum generally did the buying for the businesses while her sister did the bookkeeping and cashiering. She is survived by her sister, who lives in Deerfield. Funeral services will be held Friday. Burial will be in Laurel Hill.
