The Hardie family, consisting of Robert Alexander Hardie, his wife Margret (Kelley) Hardie and two young daughters, Sarah and Eva, moved from Canada to Korea sometime between 1889 and 1890. Four more children, Annie, Gertrude, Robert and Margaret, were born to the couple during their residence abroad. The total length of their stay in Korea is not known, but they were there at least until after the birth of their last child, Margaret, in 1903, and perhaps much longer. Robert and Margret (without children) arrived at Vancouver, British Columbia on 24 May 1932 from Kobe, Japan aboard SS Empress of Japan. They also arrived in Victoria, BC on May 14, 1935 from Kobe aboard SS President Jackson.
