Alta Barnum married David E. Allen October 20, 1892 in Putnam County, Ohio (Ohio Marriages) They had five children: Francis Barnum Allen born December 7, 1894 in Columbus Grove, Ohio (WWI draft card); Glen F. Allen born July 2, 1897 in Columbus Grove, Ohio (WWI draft Card); Gerard H. Allen born April 22, 1902 in Ohio; died November 1981 (SSDI); Maurine Allen: born August 20, 1908 in Ohio and died March 11, 1998 in Sarasota, Florida (SSDI and Florida Death Index). She married Donald Hoover; Kathleen Allen born August 20, 1908 in Ohio and died August 1995 (last residence on SSDI Belvidere, Illinois) She married Daniel Hovis.
From The Lima News (Ohio), Saturday, September 2, 1950: Columbus Grove-Graveside services will be at 2:30 Sunday in Truro Cemetery for Mrs. Alta Allen, 74, former Columbus Grove resident who died Friday (September 1) in her Milan, Michigan home. Mrs. Allen was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Barnum. She moved to Milan in 1912 from Columbus Grove. She is survived by three sons, Francis B., East Ann Arbor; Glen F., Pontiac and Gerard H., Milan; and two daughters, Mrs. Donald Hoover, Milan, Michigan and Mrs. Daniel Hovis, Belvidere, Illinois. Ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive.
