Obituary – Friday, 18 Aug 1911 – Grand Ledge Independent, p. 1, c. 2.
Death of A. P. Barnum. Andrew P. Barnum was born in New York State, September 19, 1841, and died at Grand Ledge, August 11, 1911. While a small child he was brought by his parents to Woodland, Mich., where his early life was spent on the farm.
He was in the army nearly two years, seeing active service. During the last year of the war he was taken sick and was granted a furlough, the war closing before he was able to return. It was in September of that year, the 19th of the month, on the 24th anniversary of his birth, that he was married to Miss Cora Maxson, of the same place.
There were four daughters born into this home, Carrie, now Mrs. Fred Niles of Nashville, Della, Nora and Osie, of this city. There are four grandchildren — Leo, Stanley and Victor Niles, and Melva Freeman, of Grand Ledge.
Mr. Barnum was a highly esteemed citizen, with many friends and no enemies. He was considerate of others’ feelings and spoke no unkind word. Mr. Barnum held his church membership in the Methodist Episcopal church, and found much comfort in his religious belief.
The funeral services, held Monday, were conducted by Rev. C. E. Pollok, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church here.
