Death of Mrs. Cora Barnum. Was Lifelong Resident of this Part of Michigan
Died at her Home, Corner E. Front and Greenwood Sts., Mrs. Cora Barnum, beloved mother of Mrs. Della Barnum, Miss Nora Barnum, Mrs. Osie Freeman and Mrs. F. L. Niles. The deceased had been in poor health for some time past, but on Monday, the day of her death, had been up and about her home as usual, passing away suddenly at 8 o’clock p. m.
Funeral services were held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. J. R. Wooton, pastor of the M. E. church, of which she was an active member for so many years, officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood.
Mrs. Barnum was born November 23, 1843, in Roxand township, and has made Michigan her home her entire life. She was married to A. P. Barnum of Woodland, August 20, 1865 [sic - September 19, 1865]. He preceded her in death August 11, 1911. With the exception of a short residence in Nashville, the family has resided in this community for the past 34 years. The deceased was an active worker in the W.C.T.U., the Aid society of her church, and was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Besides the daughters she leaves four grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Theron Moyer of Mulliken, Mrs. Geo. Brown and Mrs. Mary Barnes, of Independence, Kas., also two brothers, Roswell Maxson of Charlotte and Theodore Maxson of Beaverton.
Among those from out of town to attend the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. F. L. Niles of North Farms, Rev. L. B. Niles of Leonidas and Stanley Niles of Hillsdale college.
