Notes for Carrie Adora BARNUM


Carrie Barnum died in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, at the home of her son Stanley.

From the Mount Pleasant News, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, December 29, 1947:
Mrs. Carrie A. Niles passed away at the home of her son Dr. Stanley B. Niles at 12:30 pm Sunday. She had been ill the last several weeks. Born in 1865, she was married to Fred L. Niles on December 25, 1884, who preceded her in death in 1924. Mr. Niles was a Methodist minister in the Michigan conference. She is survived by three children, Dr. Leo B. Niles, Methodist minister in Lansing, Michigan; Victor B. Niles, Methodist minister in Branson, Michigan; and Dr. Stanley B. Niles president of Iowa Wesleyan College. Three sisters and one daughter Vera Niles preceded her in death. For the past ten years Mrs. Niles had spent part of each year here at the home of her son. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 am at the Funeral Home with Dr. George O Hunt. The remains will be sent day afternoon to Michigan for burial.

Mrs. Carrie Niles Dies at Son's Home in Iowa. Mrs. Carrie Dora Niles, formerly of Grand Ledge, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her son, Dr. Stanley Niles at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She was born June 14, 1865 in Grand Ledge, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barnum.
She is survived by three sons Rev. L. B. Niles of Lansing; Rev. Victor Niles of Bronson and Dr. Stanley Niles; many nieces and nephews.
The body arrived Monday morning by train from Iowa and funeral services will be held at the Strobel Homestead Wednesday at 2 o'clock with Rev. D. Stanley Coors of Lansing officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
